Italian businessman Luca Cordero Di Montezemolo, former Chairman of Ferrari, was recently invited at the “Festival dello Sport” in Trento, organized by the Italian daily newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport and couldn’t help but take a trip down memory lane with the Maranello team.
First and foremost, the lessons from Enzo Ferrari: “He called me when I was 25, and I owe him almost everything if not everything. He explained that you must always look ahead and never give up, and be even more focused when you win than when you lose. When you lose, it’s easier to find the capacity to react; when you win, you might risk saying we are the best and stopping there.” – the former Ferrari Chairman pointed out.
The memory of Niki Lauda: “one of my dearest friends,” and Gianni Agnelli, “the Lawyer,” “who taught me curiosity and the desire to look at the world, that of the present but also what will be in five or ten years.” – the 76-year-old added.
And he couldn’t help but talk about Michael Schumacher, “an exceptional man who, as a driver, brought great attention to physical preparation in Formula 1, his sense of being a team player, his ability to approach every lap in a race as if it were the one for the pole position.” – Luca Cordero Di Montezemolo continued.
TODAY’S FORMULA 1
Regarding today’s Formula 1, Luca Cordero Di Montezemolo revealed that he likes Max Verstappen, “whom we’ve been following since he was racing in karting championships,” and he doesn’t like “overly complicated regulations.” And what about Scuderia Ferrari? The executive with 19 titles under his belt sighed on the stage of the Teatro Sociale and replied: “I don’t like where Ferrari is today; I don’t like celebrating a third place that, to me, felt like a defeat. The drivers? I think Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz are the least of the problems; the problem is the car…” – the former Ferrari Chairman concluded.
