Verstappen ‘converted plane’ to complete more sim racing

Helmut Marko has dismissed any suggestion that Max Verstappen is ready to abandon sim racing, and revealed how the two-time World Champion had enabled himself to compete in more events.

Verstappen’s off-season ambition of winning the Virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans was ended by technical issues which plagued the event.

Whilst competing for the lead, connection issues put Verstappen and the Redline team several laps behind, with the Dutchman and his teammates eventually pulling out of the event altogether.

When discussing Verstappen’s frustration to the technical issues he suffered during the Virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans, Red Bull Motorsport Advisor Marko was asked if the Dutchman was considering focusing solely on the real-life racing.

“The opposite. He even had his private plane converted so that he can drive simulators in the air in the future,” Marko revealed to Sport1.

“But that’s a good thing, because Max needs this distraction. At least it [sim racing] didn’t do him any harm when he won his two titles.”
