Horner hails ‘one of our biggest performances’ as Red Bull dominate Ferrari

Christian Horner believes that Red Bull’s convincing Belgian GP victory was one of their ‘best ever’ F1 performances.

Championship leader Max Verstappen secured his ninth victory of the season after recovering from a P14 grid start.

Verstappen lead Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez to their fourth one-two finish of the season to inflict maximum points damage to championship rivals Ferrari.

Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner was delighted with the ‘beautiful’ execution from the team at Spa-Francorchamps.

“I think that’s one of our biggest team performances,” Horner told Sky Sports F1.

“I never expected Max to win that race and particularly get to the front so quickly, with Checo [Perez] right there as well, the fastest lap, a one-two finish, it couldn’t have been better for us today.

“It was one of those weekends where we were just right in the window with our car and everything worked beautifully.

“It was an amazing performance, I think it’s absolutely right up there with the very best that we achieved back in 2010.”

Horner ‘amazed’ by Verstappen’s recovery drive

For the second race in a row, Verstappen has secured victory despite a starting position of P10 or higher.

Horner continued to heap praise on the reigning World Champion, who navigated a manic opening couple of laps en route to victory.

“Amazing performance by Max. He wasn’t greedy at the start, he was very patient, particularly down at Eau Rouge, and he just picked his way through it,” added Horner.

“An incredible performance, and he just threaded his way safely through the field.

“Max I think has been exemplary this weekend and Checo was doing absolutely everything that was asked of him.”
