Lamborghini is gearing-up to unveil the Urus facelift this month at Pebble Beach. However, prior to the official unveiling, the carmaker has made an interesting and unexpected announcement – the Lamborghini Urus has set a new Pikes Peak record for production SUVs.
At the wheel of the Urus was Pirelli test drive Simone Faggioli. The route used for the annual hill climb starts at an altitude of 2862 meters and winds up the mountain for 20 km. The Urus covered the distance in a record 10 min 32.064 seconds.
According to Lamborghini, the car used for the record run was modified to comply with the safety regulations. It was shod with semi-slick tires that are said to be an evolution of the Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires.
The Urus is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. If our information is correct, Lamborghini will debut a new performance version of the SUV this year. It is said to have around 700 hp and will be about 100 kg lighter than the standard car.
