McLaren F1 car gets fresh look after major new deal with Google

McLaren have announced a multi-year partnership with Google across Formula 1 and Extreme E for 2022, resulting in a new look for their cars.

As of this weekend’s season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix, Android
and Google Chrome branding will be visible on the engine cover and wheel
covers of the MCL36, along with the helmets and race
suits of drivers Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo.

Google branding will also be visible on McLaren’s Extreme E race car, with the brand having recently entered the electric off-road series.

McLaren “absolutely delighted” with new Google deal

McLaren plan to make use of 5G-enabled Android devices and the Google Chrome browser across their operations in 2022 “to support the drivers and team” and “with the goal of improving on-track performance”.

“We
are absolutely delighted and proud to welcome Google to the McLaren
Racing family,” said McLaren CEO Zak Brown.

“Google is a global leader in technology and has been a
ground-breaking innovator in connecting people around the world.

“By
integrating platforms like Android and Chrome across our operations, our
team will be better supported to focus on driving performance.

“We’re
looking forward to an exciting partnership that spans across F1
and Extreme E.”
