This year’s maintenance will see around 1.5 miles of the circuit being revitalized, extending from Dottinger Hohe to the Sabine-Schmitz-Kurve. This video shows us that the entrance to the pits also is being redone, just like the connecting sections between the Grand Prix track and the Nordschleife. The Hyundai N corner is also part of this.
The Grand Prix track was constructed in 1984, so its surface is still relatively new. As such, only the top few inches of the old asphalt have been removed. But the Nordschliefe was constructed between 1925 and 1927, so some excavations run as deep as two meters, all the way to the foundation layer.
The Nurburgring hosted the 2020 Eifel Grand Prix, but unfortunately no deal has been agreed for the 2022 championship, as Germany will have no Formula One event this year.
