Felipe Massa and Timo Glock team up for Interlagos Stock Car ‘doubles race’

Former Scuderia Ferrari driver Felipe Massa will team up with Timo Glock, who is well-known for unintentionally helping Lewis Hamilton win the 2008 Formula 1 world title and depriving the back then Ferrari driver of the F1 world championship in the last round of the 2008 campaign. The two will take part in next weekend’s Brazilian Stock Car Pro Series doubles race at Interlagos.

Felipe Massa secured victory in the 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix in front of his home crowd at the Interlagos circuit and came very close to winning the world title with Ferrari, but a dramatic last-minute turn of events unfortunately led to a different outcome: Felipe Massa’s championship rival Lewis Hamilton was able to take advantage of the track conditions to pass Timo Glock, who was on slicks on a wet track and the McLaren driver eventually won the final in the final corner of the last lap.

The Ferrari and Felipe Massa camps initially celebrated in joy only for the euphoria to switch to the McLaren garage due to the extra point snatched by Hamilton that ensured his first Formula 1 title.

Last November in Brazil, thirteen years on from that dramatic Sunday, Felipe Massa and Timo Glock were reunited in a segment for Sky Sports F1 in which the former Ferrari driver said that he never held any bad feelings against the German for the crucial role he had played in the race on that fateful day.

“I never had anything against Timo, I never thought he would have done anything against me intentionally. Anyone who understands motorsport knows that he had nothing to do in those conditions.” – Felipe Massa said.

Tmo Glock admitted however that the outcome had led to a barrage of threats and insults from Felipe Massa’s supporters: “There are still people out there who think I did it on purpose,” said the German driver.

Felipe Massa confirmed that it had been his idea to call upon Glock to team up with him in next weekend’s Brazilian Stock Car Pro Series season-opener at Interlagos.

“I had this idea at the end of last year, after we met at the Brazilian GP,” said Massa. “I shared it with my sponsors, who soon agreed. Besides what it means to form a team with Timo within the entire context of motorsport, it is clear that we are also looking for a positive result.” – the former Ferrari driver concluded.
